What a Movie, is an android mobile app that helps users to get updates on all the latest news and buzz about Indian movies and artists. It aggregates the movie ratings/reviews, trailers, news, galleries, events, birthdays etc., all in one app.
The entertainment based apps are a crowded market with heavy competition. The design challenge was to craft a product that generates heavy user engagement and to ensure that WAM was the most preferred app by the users.
I was on boarded for the project on a freelance basis. I handled this project end -to-end which includes User Research, Personas, Wireframes, User Flows, UI Design, Interaction Design and Usability Testing.
I conducted extensive user research prior to designing. One-on-one interviews with a number of movie bloggers, fans and regular movie audiences, helped gain insightful data that was translated into meaningful features within the app design. Contextual enquiries and card sorting exercises were also used during the research process. Below are the UX Research insights:
For a quick user feedback, I designed high fidelity wireframes to gauge if there were any usability issues.
Users will be greeted with the latest movies and events, along with the ratings sliding from left to right. To go to a particular event, one has only to swipe up.
A WAM score is calculated by extracting and amalgamating the ratings from the top movie websites which includes user’s and critic’s ratings.
Multi-language content access is facilitated in the app, as India is diversified with different regional languages.
A detailed study about a celebrity, along with filmography and year-wise accolades with wins and nominations.
I tested the product at various stages of the project.
